Hi, My name is Maeve and I am originally from West London. I studied a B.A Hons degree in Fine Art at Cardiff and then went on to study Theatre Costume in Edinburgh. After learning how to cut, construct and design costumes, I worked back stage on West End Theatre shows and music concerts in the wardrobe department and as a Stylist Assistant. It was during this time, that I started to photograph and sketch some of the cast and rediscovered my love of painting. I took visual inspiration from fashion magazines, book covers, vintage film posters and advertisements. Painting started to take over and I felt like I had a voice deep inside me telling me to pursue the path of being an Artist.
At Art School I learnt that it was an Artists job to reflect and document what was going on in the the world. I didn’t want to shine a light on all the negative. I believed more in the ‘you’ve got to fake it until you make it’ philosophy. I also realised during this time, that I did not want to make Art that had an obscure meaning, which separated itself from the viewer to an elevated platform. In 2010 I started to add words to my paintings to deliberately portray an easily identifiable meaning. Art had been a healer for me along with the odd ‘self help’ book, mantra and positive affirmation. I believed in the power of ‘positive thought’ and decided I wanted to include this in my work.
My aim has always been to make Art that is fun, uplifting and accessible.
My chosen medium is oil paint on canvas. However I have recently experimented with collage, ink, glitter and spray paint.
I am always open to working on commissions, collaborations and new projects. Feel free to contact me, if you have any questions.
